Description

Introduce or review multiplying decimals with this engaging, colorful note-taking format.

  • Students take notes, use color to help with memory, and complete practice problems found around the wheel.
  • Students can keep this graphic organizer in their notebooks as a resource/study tool.

Each section of the Multiplying Decimals Wheel outlines a step of the process:

1) Estimate

2) Set up like whole number multiplication

3) Multiply like whole number multiplication

4) Place the decimal point

5) Compare answer to estimate

This decimal multiplication resource includes:

  • Student math wheel
  • Teacher key/wheel with completed notes and examples
  • Colored sample of wheel
  • A PowerPoint file that has a blank wheel with background, so you can add text to make your own math wheels, if you’d like (for classroom use only - not commercial use).

Features of this easy-to-use resource:

  • Notes sections (notes are just suggestions, and you can alter them or use other examples that better fit your instruction if you’d like)
  • Example problem in each of the steps/sections.
    • There’s room to add another example or two in the “multiply” section during instruction, if you want/need to.
  • Guided practice or individual practice: 8 problems in the pattern around the circle; the problems use decimals that go to the thousandths place.
  • Coloring/doodling opportunity: students can color the background pattern, as well as the headings and doodle arrows

What teachers are saying about this resource:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “I love the wheels! This was a very simple introduction to how to multiply numbers with decimals. I can have a chatty group, so I set the timer for how long I want to spend filling out information... and any leftover time is for coloring! It's a great way to keep them motivated and on task.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “These are great notes on multiplying decimals to add to interactive notebooks!”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Students and I are in love with all of the math wheels. The students pull the math wheels out before they pull out any other notes or resources.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “I used this with small groups for notes after teaching a mini lesson whole class. I like that it is easy to follow, it's organized, and gives lots of practice for students. I also love the ability to color it!”
