Multi-Step Equations - Find and Fix the Errors - Worksheet, Activity, Exit Slip
What educators are saying
Description
UPDATED on 12/1/17: This resource now includes an activity and an exit slip!
This is such a great way to get students discussing mathematics! Students look at the work completed for seven two-step or multi-step equations and try to find the errors made. They describe the errors, then solve the equations to find the correct solutions. Some problems have more than one error.
These equations do NOT include variables on both sides.
Included in this resource:
1) A double sided error analysis worksheet.
2) A fun activity in which students are given equation and get to purposely make mistakes. Then students can trade papers and try to find each other's mistakes!
3) A reflection page, in which student can describe common errors and how they can be prevented, as well as assessing what (for them) was easy and difficult about this type of assignment.
4) An exit slip with one problem to analyze the errors.
These types of worksheets are great for partners or small groups. Students quickly realize these are common errors, and many students have made the same mistakes before.
Students like having the opportunity to "grade" someone else's work!
Answer key included.
This activity would work well after students complete the following notes and practice:
