Mr. Sean Presents - The Umbrella of Happiness Full Video

A Resiliency and Kindness Lesson for grades K-3

Mr. Sean introduces the concept of the Umbrella of Happiness. Most of the time, mean and hurtful words bounce right off it, just like rain bounces off a regular umbrella. There are times, however, when our umbrellas get holes and some sad feelings can get through. When it's discovered that Rodney has holes in his umbrella, it's up to the kiddos in the audience to help patch it up!

- Recognize how your Umbrella of Happiness (self-esteem) helps you feel good when others are being mean (resilience)

- Understand how bullying and other hurtful acts damage self-esteem (puts holes in the Umbrella of Happiness)

- Identify ways to enhance your own self-esteem or the self-esteem of others (put patches on the Umbrella of Happiness)

ORDER Heart Stickers for the following (order enough for each student to have 3-4 stickers):

- Patching Rodney’s Umbrella activity

- Umbrella of Happiness Coloring and Activity Sheet

- Develop positive attitudes toward self as a unique and worthy person.

- Identify personal strengths and assets.

- Understand consequences of decisions and choices.

- Identify alternative solutions to a problem.

- Develop effective coping skills for dealing with problems.
