What educators are saying

My students loved this book, and this resource was a great way to add some stem activities to the lesson.

Description

Ten months before the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair architects and engineers were clamoring for the chance to design a star attraction to rival the French Eiffel Tower. A daring engineer named George Washington Gale Ferris Jr. overcomes obstacles including money, mockery, and quicksand to create a wheel that has delighted fairgoers for over 100 years!

The following companion includes multiple ELA activities for retelling, comparing, cause and effect, character evaluation, authors purpose/message, a writing prompt, and vocabulary. Additionally, I have included a STEM activity to accompany the story! There are several background and instructional pages as well as posters, a recording page, and a journal to guide students through the engineering process.

Students of all ages will truly enjoy diving into this incredible story as well as engaging in the engineering design process.

-The ELA activities are geared towards K-2.

-The STEM project can be used in K-5 although you may want to find ways to supplement it with the upper grades.
