Description

Writing is one of those curricular areas that most teachers shake their heads and admit they wish they could do a better job with teaching writing. The problem is that writing is personal, we encourage students to find their voice and every voice is different which means that how we approach writing will be different for every student. It took me a while to get students to write. I have tried many programs and all of them have had some success, but did not build the type of writers I was looking for or engaged my students. Writing is one of the most labor-intensive curriculum endeavors taken on by all parties. Writing is the gateway to our expression of what we know, how we communicate, and how we transmit knowledge. The key to writing is to get kids writing. We begin by telling our stories. I have a Writer’s Workshop framework with dedicated time every day just for writing and engaging in the writing process.
