Description

Scoots have been all the rage in our classrooms this year! In this product, there are twenty eight task cards with short reading passages about matter-solids, liquids, and gases GALORE!

Download the preview for a FREEBIE of 2 of the activities included!

Day 1 Task Card Focus: Reading Fluency & Recording Sheet-

My goal in creating these cards is to have students to become more successful reading content-specific vocabulary words. The increased exposure to these key content words will improve not only their fluency, but their comprehension as well. There is a simple recording sheet that asks questions requiring students to refer back to the text. *Lower level version has multiple choice questions based on the fluency task card passage.

Day 2: Language Arts Review

Students will use the same task cards from the prior day to answer language arts/grammar questions from the passages on the task cards. (Concepts included: nouns, verbs, adjectives, articles, contractions, adverbs)

*Lower level version has simplified parts of speech practice where they will write N,V, or A to name the nouns, verbs, or adjectives in the underlined word.

Day 3: Dictionary Skills Practice

Students will use guide words to determine which matter vocabulary word should belong on that "page".

*Lower level version asks students to put matter vocabulary words in ABC order. (Cut & Paste activity)

Day 4: Cause & Effect Station

Students will use the same matter task cards to generate causes and effects from the passages on the task cards. Higher level asks students to write in either the cause or effect based on the one provided.

*Lower level version has a cut and paste version where they will sort the causes and effects. If students have difficultly with cutting and pasting, they can always write C for cause or E for effect.

Day 5: Writing Center

Students will choice from 4 writing prompts that address different writing genres. Writing paper is included.

This could be a partner or group activity, independent reading station, or whole group class "scoot". There is an answer sheet for students to record their answers, as well as an answer key. Need additional cards for more than 28 students? Please Q&A.
