Movie Night Bundle! - 2 performance assessments on decimals & financial literacy

Students can start with the simpler task of determining their own night out at the movies before progressing into the extension task of budgeting a movie night for their whole family. They will love perusing the options at the ticket machine and the concession stand before choosing what to purchase for their entire family!

Both assessments are open-ended performance tasks designed to evaluate student competencies when performing operations with decimals, estimation, rounding, and financial literacy.

The focus is on the application of the skills and concepts they have learned to complete the complex, realistic task of estimating reasonably and deciding which tickets and snacks to purchase for themselves, and/or for multiple family members. They will then calculate their exact cost, which denominations of bills to use for payment, and the correct amount of change. Extra work space is included for students to show their strategies, write out their calculations, and explain their solutions.

An optional rubric is included to support a criterion-referenced approach to evaluation, enabling a comparison between student performance and given standards. A fun, engaging alternative to the traditional quiz that students will enjoy and find useful.
