What educators are saying

Targets our 3rd grade skills. My students enjoyed this resource, and were engaged throughout. I recommend this resource.
We used this packet as a start of our poetry unit and as a resource to make our Mother's Day Presents! I loved the examples and how easy it made teaching and explaining the differences between them. Will definitely use again next year!

Description

Students will create a beautiful keepsake for Mother's Day while learning the key elements of poetry with this engaging upper elementary language arts project! Students will learn the key elements of poetry (stanza, rhyme, meter, line, verse, etc.) while creating 8 of their very own poems focused on Mother's Day including a haiku, a cinquain, a diamonte, a clerihew, a figurative language poem, a quatrain, a prepositional phrase poem, and a couplet! Vocabulary cards are included to help students identify key characteristics in each. After writing their own poems in the provided black-line master student booklet, they will decorate and assemble them in a gift for their mom or other special caregiver! In addition, you can assess their understanding with a detailed rubric and an additional summative assessment over the unit. One of my students’ favorite writing activities of the year!

Included:

*8 page student poetry booklet with cover (step by step directions + examples)

*2 sets of vocabulary cards (ready to be copied and handed out!)

*detailed rubric for writing evaluation

*2 pg summative assessment (with answer key)
