Money Adapted Book - Canadian Money - Special Education Money Life Skills & Math

Learning about money during math lessons is an important life skill and builds financial literacy. This activity helps students understand the concept of wanting an item and the exchange of money. Focusing on money for special education classes is a necessary skill that they can transfer in their adulthood.

What is an Adapted Book?

Adapted books are books that are modified to fit a child's specific needs. They usually include visual supports and tactile objects that allow the student to actively participate in the book.

Adapted Book Benefits:

• Increased story comprehension
• Higher engagement
• Matching pictures practice
• Build fluency with frequently used sight words or personally meaningful words to the child
• Build vocabulary
• Could be used to teach a skill (ex. Social Story)

How to use this resource:

• Print, Cut & laminate each sheet and the Money PECs so you can use it year after year & student after student! 
• Add hard velcro in the middle of the bottom rectangle of the pages & soft velcro behind each bill/coin.
• Bind together with coils OR hole punch for duotang/binder.
• Read with student, encouraging them to point to the words.
• Student can remove the bill or coin from PEC pages, and put on the bottom rectangle of the corresponding page.
