Modern Day Slavery in America - Latinos Being Exploited
Paul F. Davis - Lesson for Hispanic Heritage Month and Human Rights
One 53 minute video to watch, 9 articles to read and 10 thought provoking questions for students to think about and answer.
This lesson could be used throughout the year to support immigrant workers, Latinos, human rights and also during Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15) to alert Americans of every race to the plight and struggle of Latino immigrants working in America and having their human rights stolen.
As someone who has lived and traveled throughout Latin America, including where teens in this video are coming from to the United States hoping for a better paying job and improved quality of life; this documentary deeply troubles me. Unfortunately, Latino teens are being lied and trafficked to America and their handlers (employers) in the USA profiting from their cheap labor, long hours and inhumane living and working conditions.
Paul F. Davis has earned 4 Master degrees with honors:
- Global Food Law (Michigan State U College of Law)
- Health (University of Alabama)
- Global Affairs (New York University)
= Educational Leadership (University of Texas)
Paul is also a UCLA certified University & Career Counselor. Paul is the author of 90 books including his two-volume series "THE FUTURE OF FOOD" and his fully illustrated book "EATING AROUND THE WORLD." Paul has traveled to 90 nations and lived in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe.
The more we know about this topic, the more we can unite to say and do something about it. Sadly, women and African Americans had to fight for their freedom and equal rights in the United States. Immigrant workers are now in the same situation and need our help.
