Description

This is a two-week literature guide for the book titled Journey to America, by Sonia Levitin. In this book, Lisa Platt and her family flee Germany in 1938.

The guide includes:

  • vocabulary activities
  • discussion questions
  • reading activities: write a paragraph, map work, use clues to formulate a conclusion, create a list of items you would take if you had to pack in one suitcase, similes, write a short story, compare/contrast, read Jane Eyre (or a summary), put words in alphabetical order, create a list of foods, read about a topic and make up a story, alliteration, formulate a conclusion, write a diary entry, describe the ocean liner and the scene in which people see the Statue of Liberty, scan and jot down names or descriptions of people who have been kind to the Platt family

Two sequels for Journey to America (Silver Days and Annie's Promise) are available. The mini-guide contains a page of discussion questions, links, and activities for each of the sequels. Please note:

  • Lines for students to write on are not provided for these two pages.
  • An answer key for these pages is not provided.

In this workbook version of the guide, space is provided for students to:

1) write answers to all of the questions

2) complete the activities
