Mini-Guide for Middlers: Crispin -- The Cross of Lead Interactive

This is a mini-guide (a two-week literature study) for the book titled Crispin -- The Cross of Lead, by Avi. In this book, a poor boy named Crispin is persecuted in 14th century England.

The guide includes:

• vocabulary activities
• discussion questions
• reading activities – Students will: fill in a chart about types of monks, create a list, fill in a plot diagram, think critically, write a short sequel, and complete a clock activity for canonical hours. Students will learn about: protagonist/antagonist, setting, similes, allusions, alliteration, suspense, syllogisms, and proper adjectives.

• a vocabulary review crossword puzzle
• activities that are able to be used as assessments
• an answer key

A Glossary is included in one edition of the book, but not in another so a Glossary is included at the end of this guide. Sentences, location descriptions, Word Lists, and a Sentence List are also included to enable readers of any edition to use this guide.

This is an interactive guide that enables parents/teachers to facilitate an oral discussion of the book, but it only provides space for one student to complete fill-in-the-blank activities. If you are interested in using the guide with more than one student, check out the options:

1) Reproducibles contain all of the fill-in-the-blank activities:

• When you purchase one set of reproducibles, you have permission to make a copy for each of your students.
• An Answer Key is not provided for the reproducibles; the answers for the activities on the reproducibles are found at the end of the mini-guide.
