How to use these Mindfulness Meditations:

These five mindfulness meditation scripts promote focus and well-being for teens. They are also a great social-emotional learning activity as they encourage emotion regulation, self-awareness, and empathy.

Meditation is a practice dating back to ancient civilizations and is highly regarded by modern science.  Mindfulness is a widely discussed concept in current education, with some schools even replacing disciplinary measures with meditation practices.  It is also a great for stress management for teens.

There is endless value in incorporating mindfulness meditation into your classroom routine. Peer-reviewed research has identified the physical, mental, and social-emotional benefits, including increased focus, confidence, and self-awareness, along with a reduction in stress, anxiety, insomnia, and depression.

Meditation is a lifelong tool that can be taught to students of any age group and in any subject area. As a certified yoga instructor and classroom educator, I created these mindful meditation scripts and recordings so that you and your students can gain from the endless benefits that this practice can offer.  I have tried and tested all of these meditations with my students with plenty of success and positive feedback.

You can use these guided meditation scripts as a morning meditation activity or as a “brain break” throughout the day.  As an effective tool for stress management for teens, I’ve found this activity to be highly effective before test writing and public speaking.

Each script within this resource offers a different style of meditation, including:

  • Jacobson's Relaxation Technique (5 min)
  • Focused Attention Meditation (5 min 26 sec)
  • Ascending Breath Meditation (7 min 16 sec)
  • Loving-Kindness Visualization Meditation (7 min 27 sec)
  • Sensory Meditation (9 min 15 sec)

Your students may wish to understand the benefits of these mindful meditation practices. For this reason, a research-based article snippet has been included with each script.

For the safety of your students, be sure to leave a light on or refrain from turning the lights off without a source of natural light in your room.  If you decide to participate with your students by utilizing the audio recordings for these meditations, be sure to have a colleague or assistant holding space within the room.

⭒ For classrooms utilizing Google Classroom® ⭒

Each guided meditation has also been recorded and provided in .MP3 and .WAV format. You can use these resources to utilize meditation on remote learning platforms or to simply play the audio version of the guided meditation so that you can participate with your class.

Wonderful SEL activity for my high school students. I have been using these for brain breaks and letting students find a quiet place in their homes to listen to these. I hope this activity encourages them to keep up with a mindful practice in their free time.

My students call this our "ASMR" and they really look forward to it. I am so impressed with the quality of these recordings and find them the perfect length for my classes. All of the techniques are different from one another and each one works fantastic with my age group.
