In the past I have struggled to hold my middle school students accountable during lab group activities. This year I am instituting jobs that apply in all labs as well as this rubric that the "director" will complete after each lab. I have used lab group roles that is a Freebie made available by "The Science Penguin" on her TPT page here:

The Director of each lab group will complete this group evaluation for each lab (jobs will rotate) and submit it stapled together with the other group members lab sheets (Post-lab questions). The lab group will receive a group grade based on this evaluation.

This evaluation serves as a reflection on how the lab group performed during each lab. One questions asks "Did your group finish within the allotted time". This evaluation will encourage each student in their lab group to be responsible for doing their assigned task as well as collaboration for discussion and conclusion making. This will help to keep your science activities in the classroom more organized and efficient!
