The first presentation you will open will give detailed directions about how to best use the product. From there, the year is divided in 4 different units; each lesson within every unit is numbered so it is extremely easy to stay organized, know what to do next, and keep moving forward in a way where skills are building.

As a seller, I have over 8,000 reviews on Teacherspayteachers. Every presentation in this bundle has been redone, revised and improved: It is the result of a collaborative effort between a secondary English teacher and a special education English teacher. Each presentation is meant to allow for differentiation, collaboration (when needed), teacher instruction, and student application.

Not only will your students enjoy this curriculum, but YOU will as well: These lessons are targeted to engage students through fun, interactive content that has an excellent balance of “teacher do” versus “student do”!

Here are the 4 units that are the backbone of the entire year, plus content for the first week of school, holidays, open house, and more!

First Week of School- The first week focuses on establishing the processes that will be used throughout the year, making the students comfortable, and allowing the students do some self-reflection. These materials include games, surveys, and self-reflection. In addition, free supplemental resources are included to help establish routines for the entire year.

Unit 1: Elements of Writing and Essays- After establishing the daily processes for the year, Unit 1 focuses on the mechanics of writing an essay while emphasizing paragraph development, organization, and seeing both sides of an issue. Each successive lesson allows for building of skills and progression of ideas. These skills will be continually emphasized throughout the duration of the school year.

Unit 2- Elements of Short Stories- The unit continues to emphasize the elements of writing and organization stressed in unit 1, but shifts to a focus on short stories. Students will apply their writing skills to critical thinking exercises associated with recognizing theme, point of view, setting, and other elements found within literature.

As an enrichment, teachers may weave in research elements connected to citation usage, source reliability, and formatting.

Unit 3- Elements of Style- The unit begins a focus on more advanced writing skills connected to style. Tone and mood are explored, while specific elements of writing style are investigated: word choice, imagery, sentence types. Finally, the unit is tied together with students working with different modes of communication: narration, exposition, and description. If needed, free supplements for different essay types are included.

Unit 4- Elements of Poetry and Figurative Language- This unit ends the year with fun opportunities to both analyze and create for the students. Students will focus on distinguishing between figurative and literal language, while diving into specific types of figurative vehicles: imagery, metaphor, simile, personification, and more. Throughout each of these lessons, student have the opportunity use each of devices emphasized within the unit.

Extras- The extras folder features presentations for special times of the year: open house, Halloween, New Year’s, etc. The holiday items are typically silly in nature and meant to spark fun and creativity. All items within these folders are free supplements.

In addition, the product includes free Word document extras that offer a variety of edible documents that may be useful throughout the year, or provide opportunities for further supplementation. Within the Word document extras are nearly 200 free files.
