What educators are saying

This is an excellent educational resource. My students were highly engaged in their learning through the use of this learning activity.
My students loved the contrast with negative and light space. They likes that I allowed them to paint the leaf with bright colors for a contrast

Description

Add this gorgeous Fall art lesson to your 2-D drawing curriculum! Wow your students with their ability to create these stunning value-shaded artworks! Great confidence builder that sets them up for success!

  • This is an impressive back-to-school drawing to use during your Fall Art drawing unit!

How I used this lesson:

In 7th grade Art, I review the Art Elements for the first 4 weeks with short mini-lessons. After the review lessons, I then introduce the Design Principles.

  • I used this lesson with my 7th graders as their first drawing to discuss how they will be using the Art Elements Line and Value, to shade overlapping autumn leaves to create the illusion of space on paper.
  • The Emphasis in the drawing is achieved by the use of one beautiful leaf shaded with color as a Focal Point.
  • Other Design Principles applied to this drawing include Variety, Contrast, Repetition Movement and Unity.

Techniques and Skills covered in this fun seasonal art lesson:

  • value shading
