- The major trading cities that benefit from their coastal locations and the role they each play in the network of trade routes between Canton, China and Venice, Italy
- The social changes that occur in Europe as a result of increased trade such as urbanization, increased social mobility, and the development of a middle class
- The economic changes that occur in Europe as a result of increased trade such as the guild system, the development of trade alliances, and the commercial revolution
- The role of global trade in spreading the plague throughout Western Europe
- The revolutionary effects the Black Death has on Western European society

- Numerous maps showing major 13th/14th Century trade routes and the spread of the Black Death
