Description

In this Middle Ages Escape Room activity, students are introduced to the Polyibus square cipher invented by the ancient Greeks but popularized by Medieval monarchs to avoid messages falling into enemy hands! Can you crack the code before time expires?

Students are placed in investigative teams as they analyze fictional ancient texts from Windsor Castle as they help unlock a box left behind by William the Conqueror. Students work together to translate four hidden clues using the ancient Greek Polyibus cipher, conduct basic research relating to medieval life and history, then bring all of their knowledge together to solve the final clue. Do you have what it takes to crack William the Conqueror's hidden clues?

Students use the ancient Greek Polyibus cipher to translate four secret clues, conduct research or use background knowledge, and solve the final clue by piecing together the information they have learned. A 60-minute timer is also included to display as student teams try to break the code!

Guaranteed to excite and engage your classroom!

Leave your students asking for more (like mine do)!

Don't have a box or a lock? No worries -- simple workaround ideas are included that keep students focused!
