What educators are saying

A very well-thought-out and well-planned unit. It was engaging for my students, and it was fun for me to teach.
Fantastic resource, used it to assist Year 11 English class with writing a memoir assessment task. Easy to use, easy for students to understand and engage with.

Description

✍Teach your students to write a quality memoir with this unit bundle❕ ✍This digital and printable, no prep/no plan unit will get students collaborating and discussing the critical elements of a memoir in a fun stations activity. Mentor texts will demonstrate these critical skills throughout the stations and the direct instruction lesson. This is also digital resource. It can be used for distance or e-learning. The unit will contain a Google File Link Page that will provide you with a Google Doc/Slides for each activity. A video tutorial I created will provide you with some tech tools to assist you with delivering the content via distance learning.

This Memoir Unit Bundle Includes:

✅ Digital documents - Google Slides and Google Docs. Perfect for distance learning. The stations have also been created for distance learning.

✅ Mentor Text Exploration - Get students reading, analyzing, and reflecting on quality memoir mentor texts before creating their own.

  • Two Levels:
    • Lower Level Text - An excerpt from Maya Angelou's memoir with additional reading scaffolds. Stop and respond questions, discussion questions, and quiz will support students with the text.
    • Upper Level Text - "A Cub Pilot" by Mark Twain.

  • Both texts will ask students to 'think like a writer' while they read with guiding questions and graphic organizers to facilitate reflection and discussion opportunities.

✅ Mentor texts & guiding questions (numerous mentor texts provided to teach each critical element of a successful memoir). These can be found within the introduction unit, the lesson itself, and the stations activities.

✅ Complete memoir lesson – 40+ slides.

✅ 6 stations with mentor text examples that incorporate peer lead discussion questions, independent thinking activities, and an Idea planning station to get students started with their own memoir.

✅ Decorative Table Tents for each memoir station.

✅ Brainstorming and narrowing a topic lesson that incorporates a very fun 6-word memoir project!

✅ Scaffolded graphic organizers to help students organize their memoir and/or brainstorm topics.

✅ Revision questionnaire/activity to get students reflecting on their own memoir, and helps to revise peer memoirs.

✅ Detailed and editable memoir rubric for easy assessment.

✅ Lesson Plans for each step in the process.
