Description

Everyone learns best when they see something, listen to discussions about the topic and write what they learn. The writing process is essential in learning, but my learners struggle to know exactly what to write. Some write everything we discuss and some write nothing. I have been using cloze notes for several years. In this file, you will receive a copy of the fill-in-the-blank notes, a copy of the notes filled in for learners who are absent or that have accommodations for teacher notes, a PowerPoint for class discussion the learners will use to fill in the blanks on their copy of the notes. I have include two copies of each...one in PDF format and one in Word format. I know that not everyone teaches the exact same concepts, so I want you to be able to change the notes to fit your needs.

I use these notes for the entire unit on Matter. We do a section of notes periodically and then do labs and activities about that particular concept. These are not meant to be done in one setting. I copy them into a packet and the learners staple them into their journal. The learners and I discuss the concept by going through the PowerPoint. When they see underlined words, they know those are the words they are to write.

The notes include the topics of:
What is Matter?
Classification of Matter - Physical and Chemical Properties
Changes in Matter - Physical and Chemical Changes
Phase Changes
The Atom
Kinds of Matter - Elements, Compounds, Mixtures
The Periodic Table of Elements - Metals, Nonmetals, and Metalloids
