Math Work Binder Bundle for Autism and Special Education (6 Binders)

This money saving math work task binder bundle includes 6 structured work binders. Binders include: Counting with ten frames (object to number and number to object), comparing numbers with ten frames (greater than, less than equal to, and a more and less binder), and an addition with manipulatives binder (differentiated for use with or without word problems), and a "Feed the Animals" Subtraction task.

Counting Binders:

The counting task practices number identification, 1:1 correspondence, and number concepts including the ability to match objects to numbers and numbers to objects using ten frames (for Autism and Special Education.). The ten frames used in this task have a variety of pictures of motivating items such as animals, foods, instruments, etc..

-These tasks can be assembled into binders that are great for teaching IEP goals, or for use as independent work Binder tasks when concepts are mastered.

-11 pages of ten frames with pictures of objects (0-10) (to match a number to)

number icons to enable students who are not writers yet to complete this task.

10 pages of blank 10 frames to add pictures of objects to for numbers 1-10

10+ pages of picture icons to be used as manipulatives (to create ten frames for numbers 1-10)

Comparing Numbers Binders:

This more, less, greater than, less than task utilizes ten frames to teach and practice comparing numbers and quantities. The ten frames include motivating pictures of instruments, foods, animals, and more. This task creates 2 work binders that can be used for IEP goal instruction or for independent tasks for students with autism or in special education classrooms.

A variety of ten frame cards are included with this resource to enable staff to switch out the quantities that are being compared. This enables this task to be used multiple times without students memorizing it.

For the greater than, less than binder task, students identify the quantity of each ten frame, and write the number or use the included number icons. Then, students choose the correct symbol icon for greater than, less than, or equal to.

For the more and less binder task, students compare ten frames of pictures of different objects. Students label the ten frames with the correct number or use the number icons provided. Then, they will choose the correct picture icon to answer the question, “which has more?” or “Which has less?”

Visual number lines are also included with these binders for students to reference if needed when completing this task.

Addition Binder:

This addition task can be used in a variety of ways. You can use the task without the word problem to introduce addition concepts using manipulatives. You can use the problems already created, or make your own addition problems on the pages with the blanks. Word problems can then be faded in later as students masters the task of addition.

When teaching word problems, you can begin with the addition problem pages that already include the addend and augend. Then, fade the numbers out, and have the student make the problem based off of the word problem.

Visuals in word problems include highlighted numbers and key terms to introduce word problems. There are word problems without highlighting to aid in prompt fading.

When you include the word problems, staff can read the problems aloud, or if the student is already a reader, they can complete the task independently.

Pages with large numbers in the rectangles can be used for students to match pictures as they would with a popular dot number strategy.

*If the student can write, you can omit the number icons and use a dry erase marker to fill in the numbers on the blank icons.

Subtraction Task:

This “Feed the Animals” subtraction task(within 10) for Autism and Special Education is a motivating structured work binder for teaching and practicing subtraction problems using manipulatives. Students match the appropriate number of “food” manipulatives to the minuend, then feed the number of items being subtracted to the animal. Last, the student will move the number of food items that are left over into the last column to find the answer. Number icons with a number choice board is included for students to use to fill in the answer to the problem. 65 subtraction problem cards with all possible subtraction problems from 10 to 1 are provided. These cards can be switched out easily with Velcro to enable the task to be used over and over again!
