Math Time With Songs, Poems and Nursery Rhymes:CCSS-Combines Literacy and Math!

Correlated with the Kindergarten Common Core standards in math, this unit combines nursery rhymes and traditional children’s songs with hands on math activities! A great way to integrate reading, math and music. Specific Common Core State Standards are provided for each activity.

Music is so important to the lives of children (and adults). Initially trained as a music therapist I believe whole-heartedly in the value and importance of music in our lives. It enhances learning on every level. The songs and nursery rhymes included can be taught to the children and used to strengthen beginning reading skills: syllable and word segmentation, sight vocabulary, voice-print matching and rhyming. Clapping out rhythms and adding hand movements reinforces language and reading development.
