Math Strategy, Think Aloud Visuals, Executive Function Skills

Description, purpose and application strategies for a Math Strategy that promotes and teaches self-monitoring to all students-- and provides an explicit structure for students that are struggling.

More explicit than a Turn and Talk, this strategy teaches students to not only self-talk at random, but encourages them to list steps, give explanations and use language that another student can understand. It also teaches students to listen -- (sometimes we forgot to teach this!) to respond, to request clarification and to comment.

Page one describes strategy.
Page 2-4 contains visuals for student use, hold or have close by during stations or whole group pairing:
One page is most explicit with -- statements and questions included
One page is less explicit with sentence starter suggestions.
Finally, one page is left blank for YOU to personalize to fit the needs of the student or your lesson. Write out the sentence starters- or the questions, then print copy on card stock.
