What educators are saying
This display has been great for students to refer to when solving problems. They can check what they have done and continue as needed to problem solve. It also looks great on my bulletin board.
Description
As your students become math problem solvers, use this four-step strategy poster set and task card practice to provide additional support for problem solving skills. This kit provides 4 posters with each problem solving step and a set of 4 editable task cards that guide students to understand how to solve using the four-square model. Cut and assemble posters. Maximum length approx. 38 inches.
**UPDATED** Now includes problem-solving model aligned to the mathematical process standards. Original model still available.
Strategy Posters:
These four problem solving steps are aligned to the mathematical processing standards. Each step of the problem-solving model assists students in analyzing given information, formulating a plan and determining a solution, justifying the solution, and evaluating the reasonableness of the solution
Four Steps: (UPDATED)
1. Analyze - Identify important information
2. Strategize and Solve - Formulate a plan and determine a solution
3. Justify - Prove how the solution is correct
4. Evaluate - Explain why the solution is reasonable
Four Steps:
1. Highlight the question you are asked to solve
2. Underline important information
3. Circle any clue words or key phrases
4. Solve by showing your work
Four-Square Method Task Cards:
The four-square model is a Fryer Model designed to help students dissect each part of a word problem. Students follow each problem solving step and plot each piece of information in a corresponding box. 4 sets of editable task card templates are included and can be customized for any math word problem. Each task card set includes four cards so students are able to break apart a word problem and work through each of the four problem solving steps (listed above.)
