What educators are saying

My students LOVE CSI math challenges. I used this resource for my students who pre-tested out of my geometry lessons.
I used this resource as a review prior to state testing. I appreciated the level of rigor and the students loved solving the mystery. The spelling of the word metres for meters threw several of them, but it opened up a good discussion of British versus American spelling.

Description

This area and perimeter CSI themed Math Murder Mystery detective activity will engage students by taking them on a journey to solve perimeter and area problems and puzzles. There are two versions. One in American Customary and the other in Metric.

This geometry case includes

  • Correct calculation for perimeter and area.
  • Perimeter of various shapes.
  • Calculate the missing length from the perimeter.
  • Area of quadrilaterals
  • Area maze

Answer sheets are included

These math mysteries are designed for third, fourth and fifth grade students. Could also be used with struggling sixth grade students that need a little extra work and reinforcement in geometry (or advanced, gifted and talented second grade). I also leave some of the mysteries for my sub teacher.

Math Mysteries are an independent escape room (or crack the code) type of activity where instead of using locks, students identify suspects with puzzles and word problems. This mystery is perfect all year round and is no fuss, low prep. Just print and go.
