This webquest uses four websites. All are ad-free. Make sure your school server will allow access to these sites prior to using this web quest with your students. The sites are:

This web quest has 20 questions total based on these websites, plus one short answer reflection question.

TOPICS INCLUDED

Many students only know Dr. King for his "I Have a Dream" speech. This webquest takes students beyond this speech to help them understand more about his achievements and his legacy:

Part 1 - Montgomery Bus Boycott (8 questions)

Part 2 - Letter from Birmingham City Jail (only excerpts are used - students will not read the entire letter) (4 questions)

Part 3 - Civil Rights Act of 1964 (4 questions)

Part 4 - Voting Rights Act of 1965 (4 questions)

EXTENSION ACTIVITY INCLUDED FOR EARLY FINISHERS

The extension activities grid contains nine tasks and is great for students who need an additional challenge OR for all students. You can ask students to choose a certain number of tasks from the grid, or you can have them complete any three in a row for “tic-tac-toe.” Students' ability to choose the extension tasks they want to complete increases their engagement.
