Description

Finding nonfiction materials at an appropriate level for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day for young students is always difficult!! With that thought in mind, I created this Shared Reading PowerPoint about Martin Luther King for MLK Day in kindergarten (or first grade) classrooms!!

This book has one fact per page with illustrations to support young readers. Many sight words are used to support early readers as they begin to read nonfiction text.

Title Page: Martin Luther King, Jr.
Page 2: Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15th.
Page 3: He was born in Atlanta, Georgia.
Page 4: He wanted to be a preacher, like his dad.
Page 5: He gave a famous speech.
Page 6: In his speech, he told about his dream.
Page 7: He wanted everyone to treat each other fairly.
Page 8: He won the Nobel Peace Prize.
Page 9: We celebrate Martin Luther King Day in January.

As you can see, this book is more difficult than the other emergent readers that I usually post; however, with opportunities for shared reading, kindergarteners can read this book successfully and learn about Martin Luther King, Jr. This book would also be great for first graders around MLK Day!!

I am also posting an early reader little book which will accompany this PowerPoint presentation perfectly; click here for the early reader:)

Thanks for looking and happy teaching!!!
