Description

"It starts with me" This is the theme that Bernice King has chosen to honor her late father Martin Luther King Jr. This guide is an honor to the "radical king", the lesser known details about Martin Luther King Jr., that are often left out and leaving his legacy extremely sugar coated. I think our youth deserve to see him as the radical Civil Rights Leader that he was. In this guide we will "educate, advocate, and activate" as per the wishes of Bernice King. That is how she said her father would want us to spend the day. Spending it on a day of learning the tools and history that will take our youth beyond "just a day" in her words.

I hope this guide will help you to do just that. This guide is intended to spark curiosity, make you think critically, and help you dig a little deeper into why this day is so much more than, "one day." Included in the guide is a full booklist, with an extremely special read aloud release by Bernice King herself. The resource page is full of some of my most top picks of interviews, speeches, and resources. Some of the resources contain direct clickable links, and if they're not clickable, the websites are fully listed for you to simply copy & paste.

This can be printed out, as well as viewed digitally. I've included a lined paper page to answer your critical thinking questions on, as well as a sheet for you to weigh out your pros and cons, a guide on what critical thinking is, and an art printable for you to create Mr. King in any medium of your choosing. We will cover the Voting Rights Act, The "three evils" as King called them, and what the Filibuster is and how it works.

The guide is intended for the entire family, or an educator to use as a guide and build upon the resources and ideas given. Or it can be used by an individual that would like to dive deeper into some things that were often not taught in the public education system.

However you decide to use this guide, it's intended to be used beyond just Martin Luther King Jr. day. It's a deeper guide that can carry you onto many more issues and topics. Issues that Martin Luther King cared deeply about.
