Martin Luther King Jr. Bucket Drumming

Learn about Martin Luther King, Jr. and the civil rights movement for Black history month by getting out your bucket drums, rhythm instruments, or body percussion! This set could work in a classroom as a whole group, or in small groups, centers, or even a concert as a performance or an audience participation piece. This has an added writing project.

This drumming set uses a quarter note, quarter rest, 2 eighth notes, 1 eighth note as a pickup note, and a half note.

• Four 4/4 Time signature rhythms in 4 parts:

Say the Word(s)

Clap and Say the Rhythm

Play it on your drum

Play it with a steady beat

• Quarter note, quarter rest, 2 eighth notes, 1 eighth note as a pickup note, and half note used in this file

• 4 layered pages for playing your rhythms together by adding one at a time

• 4 Posters to display for kids to help them read the rhythm they are assigned

• Small task cards of each rhythm for using in small groups, in centers, for helping a student remember his/her rhythm, or for composing new rhythms by adding them together

• Printer friendlier versions of the display posters and task cards for using less ink (not full BW but without the background)
