Forms of Utility Activity (PowerPoint/Google Slides) with video:

  • Students will watch a short video to understand how marketers try to satisfy customers
  • Students will then review the Fives Types of Utility
  • Students will use PowerPoint/Google Slides to create a Trivia Game on the Five Forms of Utility.
  • Afterward, the teacher can have students play their Trivia Games in groups, pairs, or as a whole to review and present their work.

What is Marketing Today Activity with videos and an article:

  • Students will watch a short video on what marketing actually is.
  • They will then answer a few questions from what they have learned from the video
  • Students will then read an article on marketing (provided), watch a video on why “influencers” are used to market products, and view an example of an online marketing campaign that most students are probably already aware of or participated in without knowing the cause behind it.
  • Students will then look at the 10 types of marketing and find an example online that goes with each; either a YouTube video, image, or article.

Marketing Mix Activity with video:

  • Students will watch a short video on the Marketing Mix (the 4 P’s of Marketing) and review them.
  • A word bank is provided with multiple words that describe parts of the marketing mix. Students will match each word with one of the P’s: Product, Price, Place, Promotion.
  • Students will then look at 2 well-known brands in the US: Gucci and Apple, and identify their characteristics in regards to the marketing mix by filling in the boxes provided.
  • Afterward, students will reflect and answer questions on what they have learned.

Target Market Activity with an article:

  • Students will review target markets: geographic, demographic, psychographic, and behavioral
  • They will then read a blog post article (provided) on why a defined target market and audience is important
  • Students will then be given 4 print advertisements (provided) where they will have to fill in charts to determine the age, gender, geographic, income level, and occupation, of the ad’s target market.

  • Students will be able to utilize secondary data to understand a market.
  • They will go to a specific website (provided) and use a segmentation tool in order to research a neighborhood to consider opportunities in starting a new business. In the report they will download, there are plenty of resources provided that they can use to analyze the demographics of their specific location.
  • A sample analysis report is provided.

  • Students will review the 4 types of market segmentation: demographic, psychographic, geographic, and behavioral along with their components
  • Students will then watch a short video on GYMSHARK’s market segmentation (provided) to learn the process they use to market their products

  • Students will watch a short video on the PEST analysis.
  • They will then learn about a company (provided) that is looking to expand internationally
  • After they understand the company’s objectives, they will pick any country other than the United States for the company to expand to
  • They will research political, economic, social, and technological factors in the country they choose
  • Here, they will create their own PEST analysis with the information they gathered

SWOT Analysis Activity

  • Students will learn about the SWOT analysis and watch a short video on Amazon.
  • As a class, you will then break down Amazon’s business model and analyze the company’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
  • It will then be their turn! Two companies are provided for them to complete a SWOT analysis by researching each company online
  • Once they complete the two on their own, students will answer a series of questions based on their own SWOT charts.

Business Cycle Activity (MS Excel/Google Sheets) including a video and article

  • Students will learn about the Business Cycle by first watching a short video
  • They will then answer a few questions on what they have watched
  • After, students will read an article on what is a Business Cycle (article provided)
  • Once completing the article, students will look at and compare GDP and Unemployment Rate data. From that data, they will create a spreadsheet and line graph on either MS Excel or Google Sheets with the figures they gathered from two online links; A sample is provided.
  • Students will give a brief analysis of the relationship they discovered between GDP and Unemployment.

Government Regulation Activity (with online links/videos)

  • Students will learn about 7 different government regulatory agencies: FDA, EPA, SEC, OSHA, FCC, FDIC, and EEOC
  • Website links and/or video links are provided to explore each of the agencies further.
  • Students will fill in a chart with brief descriptions about each agency and answer a series of questions.
  • Once they understand these agencies' objectives, it will be the students’ turn to get creative and act as a “government agency” and prove what they have learned.

Math Problems Activity

  • Students will use mathematical skills to solve problems in the business environment
  • Using what they learned from the PowerPoint lesson, students will answer questions in fraction and percentage form in relation to the real world.
  • Students will then look up Unemployment data and be able to analyze it by drawing information from what they have learned.

Making Charts Activity

  • This activity is good practice for students to realize how data in real life can be represented in charts and graphs.
  • Students will be given 4 different scenarios where they will have to create charts on Google Sheets/Microsoft Excel.
  • Tutorial videos are provided.
  • They will be creating a bar graph, line graph, pie chart, and one of their choosing.
  • The scenarios given are related to technology and business, as well as one personal scenario.
  • Once students finish recreating the scenarios in chart form, students will answer reflection questions on what they have learned.

Brand Management Activity

  • Students will learn how a company, Abercrombie and Fitch, was able to manage their brand reputation throughout the years.
  • Multiple online links are provided where students will deep dive into Abercrombie & Fitch’s company characteristics and answer questions.
  • Students will then watch a video on Abercrombie and Fitch to answer questions on how the company used to operate, their target market, company missteps, brand management, restructure, and growth.

Mission Statements Activity

  • Students will look at Mission Statements from 5 well-known companies: Google, Apple, Starbucks, McDonald's, Home Depot.
  • They will then answer questions based on each companies’ mission.
  • Students will then watch 2 short videos on management inside organizations.
  • After taking what they have learned from the videos into consideration, students will look at a new franchise company.
  • A link is provided for the franchise, their website, and their mission statement.
  • Students will then draw a conclusion to see if the company’s mission statement fits who the company truly is today.

  • Students will learn about the influence of social media marketing.
  • They will then watch a short video on how to advertise on social media.
  • An article is provided to learn more about different social media advertising techniques.
  • Students will then answer questions on what they have learned.
  • Afterwards, students will be provided with different social media advertisements that they will have to figure out what went wrong with them.
  • Once they understand what to do and not to do to have successful social media advertisements, students will then go online and find their own examples.

Price Promotions Activity

  • Students will look at percent discounts provided on an online website.
  • They will then calculate the discount percentage of certain products (formulas are provided).
  • Using Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, students will recreate a chart, provided, that calculates discount percentages, discount amounts, and price with discount (a video is provided if they are unsure how to enter formulas in a spreadsheet).

  • Students will review monthly sales data from a company and a wholesale invoice on the cost of goods sold (provided).
  • Students will then input data on Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets in order to recreate the charts provided.
  • Two tutorial video links are provided to help with math formulas in spreadsheets.
  • Here, they will input formulas to calculate profit on goods sold.
  • A sample student spreadsheet is provided with all formulas embedded in the cells.
  • Afterward, they will answer questions based on the data they reviewed.

Supply and Demand Activity

  • Students will research 3 famous athletes to answer questions about their income in order to relate their worth in comparison to other players.
  • Students will make connections with supply and demand and athletes' salaries.
  • Students will then read about supply, demand, the law of supply and demand, and equilibrium point.
  • A video link is provided to expand further.
  • 4 scenarios are provided on how supply and demand impact their daily lives.
  • They will look at shortages in the economy and make connections to their personal lives.
  • Videos and/or articles are provided for each scenario to dive deeper into the “why”.
  • Afterward, students will make a career connection between supply and demand and the future workforce.

Color and Music Branding Activity

  • Students will read, learn, and discuss the psychology behind colors and branding.
  • Students will also discuss the psychology behind music and branding.
  • They will have to work on 2 situations: 1 color and 1 music
  • For the color part, students will pick a brand name and logo of their choice; they will analyze it, using what they learned, to answer questions.
  • Secondly, students will listen to 3 different songs, and be able to answer questions concerning consumers.
  • Students will then look at different establishments and determine their “music”.

Logo Design Activity

  • Students will learn about 3 different brands and their logos.
  • An article is provided that students will read on how to design a logo.
  • Students will go through the different phases of logo design.
  • They will then be assigned a “new client” who is looking to redesign their current logo. A scenario is provided where students can learn about the company and who they are.
  • Students will then use Canva to create 3 versions of a logo design for their client (a known example is provided).
  • A tutorial on how to use Canva is provided and students will be able to create a free student account.

New Package Design Activity

  • Students will learn how people can make a living freelancing digital artwork.
  • Students will explore a website to see how people post services and how much they cost.
  • Students will then create a package design for a new company. They will be given specifics on what the company’s expectations are and what they require to be on their package.
  • Canva will be used to create the package design. A video tutorial is provided on how to use Canva.

Packaging and Labeling Project

  • Students will create a sales presentation for a packaging and labeling company they have as a client.
  • A background description of the company is provided along with a list of services and talking points that are required to discuss in their sales presentation.
  • Students may include videos, music, and any graphics in their presentation, along with anything they may feel would appeal to their customer.

  • Students will learn how to analyze the market by uncovering emerging trends.
  • They will do this by using Google and Facebook data.
  • Students will watch a 5-minute tutorial video on how to use Google Trends. During the video, they will pause to answer a few questions to check for understanding.
  • Upon completing the video, students will perform a series of tasks on Google Trends to prove they learned how to navigate the platform.
  • It will then be time for them to compare 2 countries and the emerging trends each of them has on their own (a link is provided on where they need to find this information from). Here they will answer on series of questions on both countries
  • They will then reflect on each country and determine where each should target their effort in the future.

  • Students will learn about the 4 basic types of market segmentation: demographic, psychographic, geographic, and behavioral.
  • Students will then dive deeper by watching a short video on how to develop a target market.
  • Students will be provided with 4 items that they will need to identify their market segmentation characteristics for. They will think of who their typical customer is and fill in a chart.
  • Upon completion, they will reflect on why market segmentation is effective and what, if any, other alternatives are available.

  • Students will be provided with 4 different charts in relation to the United States: US Import Items, US Export Items, US Exports to Different Countries, US Imports from Different Countries
  • From the data provided on the charts, they will answer a series of questions.
  • Afterward, students will explore a weblink (provided) that they will be able to dive deeper and pull information from to find out further details concerning imports exports.
  • Once they familiarize themselves with the website, they will then choose a country other than the United States and research international trade data on the website to pull visualizations on specific topics. A student example is provided

Product Adaptation Activity

  • Students will discuss international corporations and understand their target market needs and learn how product adaptation is used to target markets in different countries.
  • Students will then watch a short video on products in different countries.
  • They will then compare a menu of a company in 2 different countries (2 links are provided).
  • After review, they will answer a series of questions comparing menu items and asking why certain items are provided in different countries.
  • They will understand why this company has shaped its’ menu to meet the target markets in these 2 specific countries.

  • Students will begin the activity by watching a short video on the entrepreneurial mindset.
  • They will learn the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset by reviewing an infographic.
  • They will then complete the activity using their entrepreneurial mindset.
  • A student example is provided for reference.

  • Students will create a marketing plan and different types of advertisements for a new business that will be located in town.
  • The marketing plan will be completed in detail. An outline of what needs to be included in the plan is provided.
  • Here, students will relate key topics that they learn throughout the class: SWOT Analysis, Mission Statement, Marketing Mix, Marketing and Financial Objectives, etc.
  • Each segment has due dates that are left blank to help pace your class throughout the process; which should be done throughout the course of the class.
  • They will also create a social media post and magazine advertisement for their business using Canva.
  • This is a group project but can be done individually.
  • A rubric is provided, which can also be tailored to your class’ needs.

Marketing Project Board (3 Options)

  • Students will be provided with a “project board” where they will have 3 options to choose from for a project.
  • Students can choose from a music video/song, a written marketing plan, or a PowerPoint/Google Slide presentation.
  • All 3 options they have to choose from will be concerning topics in Marketing; details are provided for each.
