Morning Bins provide a hands-on option to morning work and can turn those busy, hectic mornings into meaningful and independent practice! These play based tubs / bins are the perfect way to wake up those little minds!

Each monthly theme will include 21 skills. The monthly skills stay the same throughout the months, but the activities change to provide students with more challenging activities.

Skills included in the Morning Bins:

  • Vocabulary- Read the vocabulary words, sort them into groups and explain why they were sorted that way
  • Word Use- Match the root word to the prefix and suffix word
  • Phonemic Awareness and Phonics- Listen for the sounds in the word and sort to /ear or /air on the mat
  • Writing Conventions- Find the letters that must be capitalized and check the reason(s)
  • Spelling Conventions- Read and find the r-controlled vowel words in the word search
  • Text- Read the paragraph and match the main idea
  • Sentences and Paragraphs- Read parts of the story and put them in order
  • Parts of Speech- Match the verb with its irregular past tense form to make a picture
  • Writing- Read the sentence starter and complete it according to the conjunction word
  • Logic and Critical Thinking- Read the clues to match the snack with the correct person
  • Addition and Subtraction- Pick two cards, add or subtract, regrouping within 1,000
  • Math Fluency- Take turns adding or subtracting within 20
  • Multiplication Foundations- Read the card, make an array to match and write a multiplication expression
  • Place Value- Read the place value cards and write the number
  • Counting and Skip Counting within 1,000- Skip count by 5's to make a path from start to finish
  • Measurement and Estimation- Look at the item and pick the best unit of measurement that completes the sentence
  • Time and Money- Read the word problem, write the value of money and decide if they can buy the item
  • Data and Graphing- Count and use the key to record the data on the pie chart
  • Shapes and Fractions- Complete the symmetrical shape using a geo board and rubber bands
  • Critical Thinking- Read the pizza order and find the fraction pizza that matches
  • Social/Emotional- Read the sentence and think of a question they could ask the friend
