What educators are saying

Great resource to use with my beginner and advanced ensembles. I've used this as a learning tool to introduce certain rhythmic counts and also turned this into a game with my more advanced ensembles.

Description

This March music madness game is a great rhythm review and loads of fun for a March music activity! Just in time for March Madness! This rhythm game is also perfect for a non music sub. Appropriate for upper elementary and fun for a band game, choir game or orchestra activity, too.

What’s Included:

• Ideas for use (with 2 game play suggestions and 4 other ways to use the product)

• Slide show (41 slides)

• Printable task cards (including ink-saving black & white option)

2 Versions of Game Play:

1. Slide Show Version:

1. Divide the class into 2 teams (you can also do 3 teams if you have a large class. However, 2 makes it more like basketball!)

2. Display questions on a whiteboard/front area of the room.

3. Alternate questions between teams.

4. Start with Warm-up and move straight through the 3 sections (Warm-up, 1st half, 2nd half). Each section begins with easier questions (Free Throws - 1 point) and progresses to more difficult (3 pointers). Also, each section gets progressively harder (Warm-up is easiest, then 1st half, then 2nd half).

5. If kids get too wild, loud or are rude to another team, feel free to call a “foul” and have them skip a turn or lose a point.

2. "Draw a Card" Version:

1. Divide the class into teams of 2-5 students per team.

2. Place the cards in a pile (or multiple piles if you have a large class) in one area of the room. Have the students spread out with their teams.

3. One player from each team comes and gets a card. They take the card to you and tell you the answer quickly. If they get it right, they get to keep the card and their team is awarded the point. If they miss it, it goes back in the pile. The faster they work, the more chances they have/points they make.

Other Ways to Use this Game:

• Place the cards around the room and have students go around with 2-3 friends and see if they can get the answers right. (informal practice) Then go over the answers on the slides after they have a few minutes to try on their own.

• Tape the cards to the white board. Have students go around and write answers under the cards. Have other students go by and write their answers to see if they all agree. Take note of any questions that seem to be tricky so you can reteach those concepts.

• Give students baggies full of cards to study when they have extra time (finish a test early, can’t play due to illness or instrument problems etc.)

• Show the slide show and have students write their answers on a piece of paper. Either go over answers as a class or collect papers for a grade.

Some positive feedback from happy customers who have purchased other games from our store:

"This is so wonderful! I am so happy that it auto-plays. My students love this and admit it's helping them to learn how to read notes. Thank you!"

"My 6th graders were the quietest they've been all year with this challenging activity! I did play some Olympic music quietly while they were working. Thank you!!!"
