Description
Students LOVE connecting what's happening in real life to their world as a kid. In this March Madness Math Packet you can bring fun and learning into your classroom while giving your students something they can relate to in the world of sports. Students will be able to see how math comes into play in our every day lives!
In this 60 page packet you will find almost 30 pages of March Madness math activities with an included close reading activity. The packet is leveled for students from 3rd grade to 5th grade so that you can differentiate your instruction while including everyone in the fun! The packet also includes everything you'll need to set up your own interactive March Madness bracket in your classroom with 30 pages of NCAA basketball teams already made for you.
The math portion includes: rounding, estimating, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, decimals, fractions, percentages, mean, and higher order thinking skills. The close reading activity includes a question sheet to go along with the reading passage as well as an answer key for easy grading.
The March Madness project can be done during or after the tournament and is a great way to help students with test prep as it covers many skills but gives them the focused practice they need.
I've done this activity for years in my classroom with 3rd - 5th graders and my students always love it and look forward to it during the day. Parents who watch the basketball games at home love getting involved and helping their children with homework.
It's a win, win for everyone! :)
