What educators are saying

The skills covered in this resource are appropriate for March. My students found the resource engaging, and they enjoyed completing the themed morning work.
I’ve used this product each month since the beginning of the school year. I love the way the skill level builds as you progress throughout the school year.

Description

Includes 23 pages of daily math and language arts morning work or homework review activities for first graders, in a simple format that encourages independent work.

This product includes two versions to meet your needs:
Number of the Day up to 100 (base ten rods and units; place value chart with tens and ones).
Number of the Day up to 159 (base ten flat, rods, and units; place value chart with hundreds, tens, and ones).

Included on all pages:
- Student name
- Calendar (Write the month, day, year, and identify the day of the week)
- Number of the Day (Write numeral, write tens and ones, color base ten blocks to represent)

Each page also includes additional activities including:
Week 1 and 2:
- Part-Part-Whole Math: Make 6 or 7
- Find the missing “part” (addend) in a math fact,
within a number bond. Ten Frame included as a tool.
- Write the related facts (fact family).
- Solve addition (missing addend) and subtraction equations.
- Story Problems (start or change unknown, or compare).
- Number Pattern / Skip Counting (identify pattern and fill in missing numbers).
- Reading Comprehension (read short passage and make inference).
- Sentences (edit for capitalization and punctuation; revise to add descriptive word).

Week 3, 4, and 5:
- Part-Part-Whole Math: Make 8, 9, or 10
- Find the missing “part” (addend) in a math fact,
within a number bond. Ten Frame included as a tool.
- Write the related facts (fact family).
- Solve addition (missing addend) and subtraction equations.
- Story Problems (start or change unknown, or compare).
- Graphing (use picture graph to answer questions).
- Number Pattern / Skip Counting (identify pattern and fill in missing numbers).
- Reading Comprehension (read short passage and make inference).
- Sentences (write a complete sentence to describe a picture, OR edit the sentence given for capitalization and punctuation and revise to add descriptive word or missing sight word).

Sentences include St. Patrick's Day and Easter (non-religious) themes and clip art.

Once students learn the activities, they can complete them independently in about 5-10 minutes each day. Morning work can be checked whole-group in less than 5 minutes. Number of the day is provided by the teacher (I use the number of days of school and write it on the board), or it can be differentiated. These activities could also be used as homework.
