What educators are saying
Description
No more boring mapping worksheets to teach map skills! This maps and globes resource is intended to teach geography and mapping skills in a fun, meaningful, and creative way! You may use it to supplement other mapping units or resources or as a framework to plan your own units.
It is the foundation for the month or so of mapping instruction I do in my own classroom. It is meant to be "hands on", not fill in the blank!
This resource is NOT a mapping textbook and is not scripted in a day-by-day format. It is meant to add deeper thinking to your mapping instruction. These mapping lessons are not a set of fill-in-the-blank map worksheets but are, instead, a collection of creative activities geared toward getting students to really understand more about the world they live in.
- Art projects that teach geography
- Research opportunities
- Challenge tasks
- Map interpretation
- Mapping posters with essential questions
- Vocabulary cards
- Assessments
- And more!
If you have a textbook to use--great. If you have access to books and online resources--great. You can make this unit very teacher directed or very student research oriented...whatever fits your needs.
So what is included in it?
It is divided into sections to help you plan instruction--including mapping basics, world geography, U.S. geography, landforms, and state geography. You may use all of the sections or just some of them. You can change the sequence of the sections to match your units.
This resource is filled with teaching tips, lesson ideas, anchor chart ideas, interactive notebook components, 10 assessments, art projects, challenge opportunities, and lots of flexibility. Many of the projects in this unit are listed each year as "favorites" by my students!
Please consider downloading the preview for a better look at what is included. It's jam-packed! Perfect for teachers and homeschoolers alike. This edition is geared toward U.S. students. ***NOTE*** The total number of pages is a little misleading; the "states" section has 2 different pages, each for all 50 states. I just want to be clear! :)
