Description

A creative piece of art work that requires students to design their own repetitive patterns in the grids around the circle. There are 3 circles around the image in the centre. Each circle is divided into 32 spaces (marked with a light grey line) which helps your students to keep their pattern size/shape consistent. These lines are barely noticeable once colour is added.

1. Select a template.
2. Use the ‘pattern plan’ template to draw 3 different patterns and to decide on your colour scheme.
3. Draw the patterns on the mandala template. Use a black pen.
4. Add colour.
5. Cut out and display.

INCLUDED:
♦ 5 templates (different image in the centre but the circles are the same)
♦ ‘Pattern Plan’ template
♦ Teacher notes

Please click on the PREVIEW button above to see the different templates.

WHAT IS A MANDALA?
A mandala is a spiritual symbol in Buddhism and Hinduism. The word mandala comes from Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language, and it means ‘circle’. Colouring a mandala is a great way for your students to relax and allow their mind to go quiet.

2 PAPER SIZES:
♦ A4 size paper
♦ Letter size paper

This activity links to Algebra (repetitive patterns) and Geometry (shapes and lines).
