What educators are saying

Loved this! It was a great way for my high fliers to really flex their brains. It definitely made them think and provided a great challenge.
This resource was really easy to prep and implement. Students thought they were playing a game and this became a favorite.

Making 10 to Add is one of the most important mathematical skills students build in first grade. It gives students a starting place when adding and base 10 becomes a ‘safety’ when students aren’t sure where to start.

This resource is intended for first-grade students who already successfully make 10 using manipulatives.

In this resources I have included:

*24 Making 10 to Add task cards in this resource

*4 blank task-card templates so students can create their own problem

*4 one-question exit slips for a simple, on-the-go assessment.

These task cards can be used…

*as a solve the room during Math Centers

*a scoot in which one card is placed at each student’s desk

*glued into an interactive reading notebook.

Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.) To add 2 + 6 + 4, the second two numbers can be added to make a ten, so 2 + 6 + 4 = 2 + 10 = 12. (Associative property of addition.)
