Description
This hands-on resource includes fun and engaging activities to teach the concept of main idea and supporting details. It includes a mini lesson, interactive presentation, games, activities, practice sheets, passages, crafts, an assessment, and SO MUCH MORE! All of the activities were designed to get your students moving and interacting while discovering the main focus of a text.
This bundle includes various levels of activities: Beginning with naming the main idea of a group of objects to determining the main idea of a multi-paragraph text and finding the focus and details of each paragraph. Will you use every activity with every child? Probably not! It includes a wide range of skills depending on the individual needs of your students. For example, one of my guided reading groups will be finding the main idea in the multi-paragraph text while another group will be working to find the main idea of a paragraph.

I am a believer in a hands-on approach to teaching. Students learn when they are deeply engaged in the learning process. But, what does it mean to be hands-on in reading class? From my experience with reading instruction, my students learn best when they are reading, talking about what they are reading, conversing with their friends, moving, and involved in deep discussion. Students learn so much from each other and my reading classroom is nothing but silent.
