Description

Introduce your middle and high school students to musicals with this MUSICAL THEATER RESEARCH PROJECT. Using any Broadway™ musical of your choice, your students will become familiar with the history, plot, characters, and setting through carefully guided research. They can organize their findings into a presentation with the provided Google Slide™ or create one from scratch.

As a middle school teacher, I have discovered the need for careful guidance to help students keep their information and sources organized when doing research. Music teachers often don’t have time in their class schedules to go in-depth with students on how to research a topic properly. I have created these materials to help students organize and neatly present their research quickly and straightforwardly.

This Product Includes:

  • Teacher instructions (PDF)
  • Student Instructions (PDF)
  • Student instructions (Google Slide™ for teacher editing)
  • Research Collection form (Google doc™)
  • 3 pre-formatted Google Slide™ presentations
  • Suggested research sources
  • Grading form (Google doc™)

The basic form of this research project

  1. Assign students a musical to research or allow them to choose a musical.
  2. Give students the direction sheet and the pre-formatted Google Slide™ presentation.
  3. Students will follow the prompts in the presentation and, using the suggested links in the direction sheet, complete the project.

Other options include:

  • Have students complete their research first, using the provided Google Doc™. The document contains a checklist for each topic and a prompt to copy and paste sources.
  • For increased student freedom and creativity, use the provided presentation and document as models for them to build a slide show from scratch.
