MS-ESS2-1 Rock Cycle Summative Assessment

This is a standard based assessment for Next Generation Science Standard MS-ESS 2-1 (Middle School Earth and Space Science).

The assessment has a comprehensive rubric and checklist for students to use to organize their response.

The assessment requires students to:
-create a model of the rock cycle
-explain/define the processes that cycle matter
-write a narrative of the rock cycle (advanced)

This is a Standards Based Assessment that includes a comprehensive scoring rubric.

This assessment is very clear and user friendly. No more questioning what grade students earn because the rubric is very straight-forward with no gray area or wiggle room. In order to differentiate, students can be scored using a sliding rubric scale.

My students have done very well with this assessment model and they enjoy being able to draw as well as explain the concepts.
