Description

Students overwhelmed with all the rules for how to do MLA in-text citations? Set students up for success with MLA format by practicing in small chunks with these MLA in-text citation bell-ringers. These lessons provide scaffolded practice for paraphrasing and embedding quotes so that students can gradually gain mastery.

Here's how it works:

  • Start by using the PowerPoint to give guided notes on the basics of introducing quotes, paraphrasing, and MLA in-text citation rules

  • For 11 days, students complete bell-ringer practice

  • Bell-ringers are scaffolded; at first, students simply punctuate model sentences while you discuss technique

  • Exercises gradually work up to independent paraphrasing/embedding/citing
