Description
This Lunar New Year unit is designed to help students learn about the customs and traditions of Chinese New Year. The focus of the unit is on text features, main idea, and details. It starts with a presentation on text features, followed by a text feature riddle game. Main idea and key details are reviewed before reading the included All About Lunar New Year presentation. After reading, students engage in a lantern craft activity to demonstrate their understanding of main ideas and details. This craft can be displayed on a bulletin board in January or February. The unit also includes a student booklet, a text feature scavenger hunt, and passage activity sheets for additional practice with main idea, details, and text features. To wrap up the unit, students can make and write about a fun dragon snack.
