All lessons include Connection, Teaching Point, Teaching, Active Engagement, and Celebrations! Please keep in mind that all of Bend I is exactly as Lucy wrote it, but that Bend II I tweaked.

For Bend II, I decided to make the lessons more engaging (as any good teacher would do), which is why I included TedTalks. I found that, after teaching this unit for 5 years, that Bend II was redundant and my students were burnt out from the Chocolate Milk topic. This is why I have my students research a topic of their choice and at the end of Bend II students write powerful essays and turn them into TED talks in this unit!
