This collage and drawing art lesson will teach students about Lorna Simpson and how she uses her artwork to make a statement about hair discrimination. Lorna Simpson is a Jamacian-Cuban and African-American woman, making this is a perfect lesson to celebrate artists for Black History Month, Women's History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month or any time of the year. Students will learn how to create a magazine collage, as well as learn the art of Zentangles. This is a great elementary or middle school art lesson to teach the elements of art and principles of design: contrast, line, pattern and UNITY
This art lesson plan includes:
PowerPoint slides and/or PDF slides & lesson plan includes: objectives, standards, vocabulary (contrast, unity, collage and identity politics), step by step directions, student examples, printable rubric and YouTube art tutorial that can be shared with your students in class or remotely.
