Description

Do you have students working on listening for critical elements? Create five file folder games, each working on listening for 1, 2, 3, and 4 critical elements. Use the file folder games for collecting baselines, practice, or assessment.

Critical elements are pieces of information, presented auditorally, which the student must hold in his/her short-term memory to perform a task. Listening for critical elements goals are typical for students with hearing loss or (central) auditory processing disorder. According to the Auditory Learning Guide, students typically master listening for 1-2 critical elements one year after being optimally fitted with hearing aid(s) or cochlear implant(s). 3 critical elements are typically mastered two years after optimal fitting; and 4 critical elements are mastered after three years.

With this product, you will construct five different file folder activities: At the Vet’s Office, In the Dressing Room, In the Cafeteria, At the Grocery Store, and At the Toy Store. Each activity features six directions each for 1, 2, 3, and 4 critical elements. The critical elements include colors, shapes, prepositions, and descriptors.

Follow the directions to create the games…then use them again and again!
