What educators are saying
Description
The Duolingo Spanish Podcast series is a great tool to help students increase vocabulary and develop their listening comprehension skills. With fascinating true stories from Latin America, students are inspired by the courage and perseverance of the main characters, who have overcome incredible odds in the face of adversity. In the words of the narrator, "these are not language lessons; they’re life lessons through language."
EPISODE SUMMARY
This activity guide was created to accompany Podcast Episode #11: La voz de la calle (The Voice of the Street). What do you do when you hit rock bottom? Do you dust yourself off and try again? It may not be so easy. This episode tells the story of Fabio "Manu" Manuppella, an Argentine antique seller. During the economic crisis of 1999, Manu loses his job, his wife, the place he once called home, and is left to wander the streets of Argentina. Initially thinking it would be a temporary situation, he does not anticipate nine hard years of living on the street. After a friend tells him about a shelter that helps the homeless overcome their situation and reintegrate into society, he finds his calling in a radio program he creates to give a voice to the voiceless. **Internet access is required to listen to the podcast.**
