Description
This is a parody to the Disney (Lion King) song "I Just Can't Wait to be King". Disney owns the rights to the music. It covers some of SC Standard 7-2.1 on Limited and Unlimited Governments including: divine right, absolutism, Magna Carta, parliament, William and Mary, English Bill of Rights...
The parody lyrics are listed below. (Copy and paste them if you'd like to print out the lyrics for your students to read along with the recorded parody.)
The file is a mp4 video file that contains the music, parody lyrics, and the words to the song. It makes it very easy for the students to sing along.

My students have a lot of fun with the songs. It is also a great way to aid in memorization and class discussion.

Simba: I'm gonna be a mighty king
That rules with divine right
Zazu: That means that god gives you power to do the things you like.
I'm gonna be an Absolute
Monarchy with power
Nothing stops what I can do
I make my subjects cower!
Zazu: Thus far, a rather unlimited thing
Oh, I just can't wait to be king.
(Absolutism puts total power in the hands of the ruler!)
When I say, "Do this"
Everyone does that.
But all the people want a
Limited Government
(Freedom!)
Free to vote and a say!
Free to have rule the people’s way!
Zazu: The Magna Carta limits rule and puts the people first.
Simba: The Parliaments the peoples voice with “power of the purse”
Zazu: If this is where the government is headed count me in! A Constitutional Government makes everybody win!
This king makes his people jump and sing

Everybody look left

Sign the Bill of Rights!
(Oh Yeah!)

Equality and Freedom lead the way
