When the bulletin board is all done, it states, "Light up the world with kindness." (There are two different font versions to choose from). Then, to make the bulletin board more meaningful, I have included kindness stories, a kindness journal, and lightbulbs that the students can fill out.

KINDNESS STORIES

This bulletin board kit comes with three stories about kindness (written by me). The first story is about a girl whose neighbor isn't very nice. But she decides to serve him anyway. The second story is about a boy that doesn't feel like he has any friends. But then a new kid moves in and is nice to him. The third story is about a 5th grade boy whose mom has cancer. His classmates pitch in to cheer him up.

You can read the stories that I have included, or you can use picture books. If you want to read picture books, you can use your own, or I have included a list of kindness picture books that I love. For each picture book, I have linked a read aloud on Youtube that you can use instead of purchasing the books.

KINDNESS JOURNAL

After reading kindness stories to your students, they answer questions in their kindness journal. To set up the journals, students just need to fold the paper into fourths.

The first page has them think about the stories they heard and how they can be kind. Here are the questions:

1) Which kindness story did you like the most and why?

2) What do kind kids do?

3) What do kind kids say?

4) How can you show kindness this holiday season?

The second page of their kindness journal allows for four entries where students can record something kind they did or something kind they saw.

The third page has students look back and reflect on their experience. Questions state:

1) How did it feel when you were kind to others?

2) What have you learned about kindness?

3) Why is it important to be kind to others?

WRITING ACTIVITY

After students fill out the first page of their kindness journal, they begin lighting the world with kindness. Any time they do or see something kind, they write it on a colorful lightbulb. That lightbulb is then added to the bulletin board. Anytime someone walks past the bulletin board, they will see all of the kind things your students are doing. Once the bulletin board is full, you can add their bulbs to your door, the wall, and all over the school.

For reference, my bulletin board is 48" X 36".
