Description

A fun alternative to a standard worksheet to introduce or review the life cycle of a ladybug. Students will LOVE that they can open and close their finished ladybug life cycle foldout to reveal the stages inside.

This differentiated foldable activity could be used as a science center, for interactive science notebooks, or to support a lesson on insects/bugs, symmetry, or life cycles.

Benefits of this activity:

  • Low prep
  • Children learn about the ladybug life cycle in a fun and hands-on way, that’s a bit different from a standard science worksheet.
  • Can be used to introduce the life cycle, or as a review/assessment to check understanding.
  • Encourages fine motor/scissor skills, hand-eye coordination (folding), and sequencing.
  • Differentiated options allow for multiple age ranges or abilities to do the same activity.
  • Finished foldouts can be inserted into an interactive notebook where they can be referenced by children.

The templates

This resource is a 10 page PDF with 4 similar cut and paste template options for differentiation:

  • Color the template, cut, and fold.
  • Color the ladybug and the stages of its life cycle, cut out and match the life cycle descriptions to the pictures, glue, and fold.
  • Color the ladybug and the stages of its life cycle, cut out and sequence the life cycle stages (2 options, one with the names of the stages, the other with descriptions), glu,e and fold.
  • As above but with a straight cutting edge around the ladybug.

The file is included with both US (ladybug) and UK spelling (ladybird). A picture guide showing where to fold is also provided.
