Description

This Flipchart series (Parts 1-3) were split up due to the large size of the original file. They cover a Life Skills curriculum for an entire academic year. The lessons focus on basic grammar, appropriate and inappropriate behaviors, goal setting, navigating social relationships, the development of self-advocacy strategies, measuring time, and reading comprehension. The C.L.O.V.E.R. system of teaching syllable awareness is used.

The texts that I used at the end of the curriculum were Roald Dahl's The Twits and Boy: Tales of Childhood. Aims and Do Nows are provided for the book reading sections of these lessons. Teachers may create their own mini-lessons before 15-20 minutes of reading from these books a day. Students compare their academic lives to that of Roald Dahl's.

The culminating project to demonstrate mastery of the above skills and knowledge areas is writing an autobiography. Students may write them and then type them. If needed, instructors or teachers aides may scribe or type them as students verbally tell their life stories.
